RESTRICTIONS FOR L AND P PLATE DRIVERS

Written by Sean B.

As L  and P  platers are still developing their driving abilities, they have different restrictions to other more experienced drivers.

It’s important that you understand these restrictions so you don’t get fined or worse, lose your licence.

A reminder of some driver restrictions

  • P1  drivers will have their licence suspended for at least 3 months for ANY  speeding offence.
Penalty: The minimum is 4 demerit points, a fine and 3 month licence suspension.
  • ALL  mobile phone use is banned for Learner and  P1  drivers – this applies to all use, including hands-free sets and phones set to speaker.
Penalty: 4 demerit points and a fine. Double demerit points apply to mobile phone offences during all holiday periods such as long weekends, Christmas, New Year and Easter.
From 1 December 2016, P2  licence holders will no longer be permitted to use a mobile phone at all while driving or riding. P2  licence holders will have the same restrictions as Learner  and P1  licence holders.
  • P1  drivers under the age of 25 can only carry 1 passenger under the age of 21 between 11pm and 5am (there are some exemptions).
Penalty: 3 demerit points and a fine.
  • L  and P  plates have to be attached to the OUTSIDE of the car – you can’t stick the plates on the inside of your window any more.
Penalty: 2 demerit points and a fine.

You may think you’re being punished for the behaviour of a handful of hoons, but take a look at the stats.

Training Teens to Drive

Written by Sean B.

Professional Advice for Training Teens to DriveWith a team of highly experienced driving instructors, award-winning Prestige Driving School was featured in an article by NSW Compensation Lawyers as experts on teaching safe driving techniques to your new teen driver.Based in Sydney, we service a range of suburbs in the Parramatta, Ryde, The Hills Shire, Hornsby Shire, Bankstown, Canterbury, Botany, Randwick, Rockdale, Kogarah, Hurstville and Sutherland Shire areas. We ensure focus is placed not only on the goal of passing a driving test but on helping learners to drive safely for life. With over 18 years of experience, our instructors work with learner drivers at any stage, from those just getting behind the wheel for the first time to teens almost ready for their test. Instructors continuously assess students, reminding them of any mistakes to help correct them and turn safe driving behaviour into habits. In the article, ‘Driving Lessons and Road Safety Tips for Teen Driving ’, we suggest that proper driver training is the key to success when your teen is learning how to drive. As a parent teaching your child how to drive, it’s possible you may have forgotten certain road rules, safety techniques and applications over the years. It’s important that teens receive training that’s up to date, so this way, they form excellent habits right from the beginning of their driving career.Professionally trained instructors know how to deliver information to learner drivers in a way that makes it easier for them to learn. They’re adept at teaching, rather than telling, with superior techniques to ensure your child progresses in skill while learning how to do so safely. It’s also important that teens are taught to drive in newer cars that include safety features to help save lives. Though it’s common practice to buy teens old bombs as first cars, the risk of injury is significantly increased in the case of an incident. In terms of specific driving tips for teens, Prestige recommends they always look far ahead to ensure there’s plenty of time to analyse situations and make appropriate decisions. Teens need to understand the importance of always being one step ahead. For example, planning the next move, while waiting at lights or in traffic, means more time for making good decisions that ensure safe driving practices while learning and for life.

NSW Digital Driver Licence

Written by Sean B.

The NSW Digital Driver Licence (DDL) is now in a live environment and some testing is still underway. Customers who experience delays are encouraged to download the DDL at a later time.

The NSW Digital Driver Licence is the digital version of the NSW Driver Licence available through the Service NSW app.

For all driver licence holders, the digital driver licence is now legal for use across NSW at no additional cost. It’s optional and doesn’t replace the plastic card. There are conditions for using the digital driver licence  that holders need to know about.
