How it works
What happens on the Safer Drivers Course?
The course has two modules. You can do them on the same day where sessions allow, or on different days, as long as you complete Module 2 within 30 days of Module 1.
Module 1: Facilitated group discussion (3 hours)
A three-hour session for 6 to 12 learner drivers, led by a trained facilitator. You'll talk through the risks new drivers face, how to make safe decisions on the road and practical ways to reduce risk before you drive on your own.
Module 2: In-vehicle coaching (2 hours)
Two hours on public roads in a dual-control car, with a qualified coach and one other learner driver. You'll put low-risk driving strategies into practice, building on what you discussed in Module 1.
Bring to both modules: your learner licence and your log book (or log book app).
Cost
How much does the Safer Drivers Course cost?
$140
Standard course fee
Paid when you book. The fee is the same with every accredited provider.
Free
Disadvantaged Learner Initiative
Fully funded places through this NSW Government initiative, for eligible learners who are the primary holder of a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card (not listed as a dependant), current or past Driver Licensing Access Program participants, or people who are or were in out-of-home care.
Fully funded places are limited each year. A concession application and proof of eligibility are required, and we're happy to help you with them.
Log book credit
How does the 20-hour credit work?
Learner drivers under 25 need to log 120 hours of supervised driving, including 20 hours at night. Completing the Safer Drivers Course gives you a 20-hour credit, which reduces the hours you need to log from 120 to 100.
Your coach records the credit in your log book, or in your approved log book app, at the end of Module 2.
Before you book
Before you book: check your log book
To complete the course, your log book needs to be in order. Please check it before your first module:
- Your logged hours meet the eligibility requirements above.
- Every entry is signed by your supervising driver. Unsigned entries can't be counted.
- Your hours are added up at the bottom of each page (paper log books).
This is a requirement for the course, so we can't make exceptions. If your log book isn't ready,
contact us and we'll help you choose a later date.

FAQs
Safer Drivers Course FAQs
Does the 20-hour credit count towards night driving?
No. The credit reduces the total supervised hours you need from 120 to 100, but you still need to log 20 hours of night driving.
Do I need to bring a car?
No. Module 2 is done in a dual-control car provided for the coaching session.
Is there a driving test at the end?
No. The course is about coaching and building safe habits, not testing.
