Safer Drivers Course in Sydney

Tired of slamming on your imaginary brake, pressing yourself into your seat or reaching for the grab handle above the door? What if you could skip 20 hours of it?

The Safer Drivers Course is a 5-hour course for NSW learner drivers under 25 that builds safer habits before they drive solo. When they complete it, they get a 20-hour credit in their log book. Prestige delivers it at 11 locations across Sydney.

Prestige Driving School is an accredited provider of the Transport for NSW Safer Drivers Course.

Can your learner do the Safer Drivers Course?

  • They hold a current NSW learner licence.

  • They've logged at least 50 hours of driving, including at least 10 hours at night. These must be actual driving hours: 3-for-1 bonus hours don't count.

For parents

Why parents book the Safer Drivers Course

You've spent years keeping them safe. The Safer Drivers Course is designed for the stage just before your learner drives on their own, when you won't be in the passenger seat anymore.

Safer habits before they go solo

Your learner talks through the risks new drivers face, how to manage their space on the road, how to handle pressure from friends and how to make clear decisions in tricky situations.

Coaching from a qualified coach

In Module 2, a qualified coach takes your learner and one other learner out on public roads in a dual-control car to practise low-risk driving strategies.

Done in as little as one day

Both modules can be done on the same day where sessions allow. Otherwise, Module 2 just needs to be completed within 30 days of Module 1.

How it works

What will your learner do on the Safer Drivers Course?

The course has two modules and takes 5 hours in total.

Safer Drivers Course group session in Sydney

Module 1: Facilitated group discussion (3 hours)

A three-hour session for 6 to 12 learner drivers, led by a trained facilitator. It's a discussion, not a lecture: learners talk through the risks new drivers face and practical ways to reduce them.

Safer Drivers Course in-car coaching in Sydney

Module 2: In-vehicle coaching (2 hours)

Two hours on public roads in a dual-control car, with a qualified coach and one other learner driver. It's coaching, not a test: learners put low-risk driving strategies into practice.

Your learner needs to bring to both modules: their learner licence and their log book (or log book app).

FAQs

Safer Drivers Course FAQs for parents

Is the Safer Drivers Course the same as the 20-hour driving course?
Yes. People often call the Safer Drivers Course the 20-hour driving course or the safe drivers course, because completing it gives learners a 20-hour credit in their log book.
Does the 20-hour credit count towards night driving?
No. The credit reduces the total supervised hours your learner needs from 120 to 100, but they still need to log 20 hours of night driving.
Does my learner need to bring a car?
No. Module 2 is done in a dual-control car provided for the coaching session.
